CBI SEEKS CLARITY ON RETAIL RE-OPENING
The Stocklists reported on the CBI asking the UK Government tow work with retailer as the UK looks to reopen the economy.
‘The CBI accepts any reopening date must be guided by health data, but it
asks the government to confirm “what will be considered low, medium or high-risk economic activity, so that businesses can understand what will open sooner or later”.

NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK
The Contract Flooring Association reported on National Apprenticeship Week and how the construction industry can get involved.
“Taking place between 8-14 February across England and Wales, National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) will see a conversation about the benefits of becoming an apprentice play out across social media, supported by contributions and campaigns from government, industry bodies and employers.
Construction plays a central role in NAW, which means the week is one of the best opportunities for construction employers to recruit highly engaged young people to apprenticeships.”

DEMAND WILL DEFEAT “RETAIL DARWINISM”
The Stocklists reported on the year on year fall in consumer spending of 16.3%.
“Pent-up demand will prosper over “retail Darwinism’ say analysts as consumers spending reports for January were predictably bad for the non-essential sector.
Consumer spending fell 16.3 per cent in January compared with the same month last year, the largest annual drop since the spring, according to Barclaycard data. Furnishing stores were 14.6% down.
According to BRC-ShopperTrak data, footfall was down by 78% in January compared to 2019 – this compares to the 76% decline in the November lockdown.”

The Construction Products Association (CPA) announced a consultation on a proposed new Code for Construction Product Information. The consultation closes on 31st March.
“The industry consultation for a proposed new Code for Construction Product Information is now open. If you work for a company involved with the building and construction industry – whether a manufacturer, specifier, supplier, distributor or installer – we need your views!”

CFJ LIVE – 2021 ONLINE FLOORING EXPO
The CFJ LIVE flooring expo started taking registrations. It takes place on July 1st from 2pm to 7pm.

UK GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES COVID TESTING KITS
“Use this service to get the forms you need to order free lateral flow tests for your employees.

SHOPS PLAN FOR RE-OPENING ON APRIL 12
“Non-essential retail in England hopes to re-open on April 12 as the second stage of a four-step plan to exit lockdown “irreversibly”.
Boris Johnson announced that following the return of schools on March 8, the second step will be to re-open non-essential retail five weeks later with an announcement planned on April 5 to confirm the re-opening seven days later if the progress on vaccinations and infections continues.”
