Q4 flooring sales are mixed
According to the most recent retail sales figures for flooring, the final quarter has started slowly in the run-up to Christmas, with a 9% decrease in value from the previous month.
According to data from the Office of National Statistics, retail flooring sales for October were $245 million; while this is 9.34% down from September’s level, it is more than 13% higher than it was at the same time last year.
The current rate of price inflation in the flooring industry is roughly 9%, thus the month-to-month fall in value hides a more significant decline in volume.

Flooring distributor reports 28% lift in Q4 sales
The latest in a string of encouraging statistics from the flooring industry during the crucial pre-Christmas shopping season is that flooring distributor Likewise has announced a 28% increase in Q4 sales thus far.
Like-for-like sales climbed by 39.0% in the first quarter of 2022, 18.4% in the second and 21.8% in the third. For the current quarter, sales in October and November indicated an increase of 27.7%.
Despite the current difficulties, leading flooring companies have reported solid trading over the past two weeks.

RPI in the flooring sector still climbing
Even while costs are beginning to somewhat decline across the board for furniture, retail price inflation is still increasing in the flooring industry.
It was anticipated that inflation in the flooring retail sector would stabilise, but according to the most recent Office for National Statistics (ONS) data, it increased by 0.6% from 8.7% in October to 9.3% in November.
