Flooring industry news and insights
We love flooring and the flooring industry. It’s our family business and we’ve been doing it for years. As well as keeping up to date with all the latest product innovations and constantly adding to our range of flooring products and materials, we like to keep an eye on the wider flooring industry news.
It’s not always easy to make the time to do this. Luckily, we’ve been really busy throughout the last couple of years despite all the worries and challenges that have come with Covid. Many people have made home improvements and undertaken projects during the various lockdowns despite the challenges of working in social distancing times.
Despite being really busy, we always keep an eye on the flooring industry news because we all know how quickly things can change.
MONTHLY FLOORING INDUSTRY NEWS ROUNDUP
To make your life a little bit easier, we publish a monthly flooring industry news roundup blog.
Every month you can find a summary and recap of all the major stories affecting the flooring industry and also small businesses. When you own a small business it’s vital to keep up to date with developments that can affect how your business operates.
So as well as covering flooring news, we include stories about things that might affect small business owners and even the latest economic trends and developments and how they might affect the wider flooring industry as a whole.
THE MAIN FLOORING INDUSTRY NEWS SOURCES
Outside of the mainstream media, there are probably three main sources of flooring specific news:
The Stocklists – this is probably the main source of flooring news. The Stocklists in its introduction says it is often referred to as the bible of the flooring business. It was launched in the 1970s and gets its name because manufacturers had to send wholesalers and retailers lists of the next carpet to come off the loom. They kept the name even though this practice has long since disappeared.
The Contract Flooring Journal – this is published by Kick-Start Publishing which was established in 1999. They own the Contract Flooring Journal and Tile & Stone Journal. These are abbreviated, and known as, the CFJ and TSJ respectively. It is the official magazine of the Contract Flooring Association.
The Contract Flooring Association – the CFA is a membership organisation for firms operating in the flooring industry. As a membership organisation it aims to ‘provide essential business services and expert information that promote industry standards, professionalism, quality, safety and training.’ It was formed in 1974 by amalgamating three smaller flooring associations.
OTHER NEWS SOURCES
We also look for other sources of news and industry help and insight that our customers may find useful.
FSB – The Federation of Small Businesses has been around since 1974. It’s a not-for-profit member led organisation and offers support across every region supporting small business owners.
UK Government – The gov.uk website is not always the easiest to navigate and find information, but we often link to stories and developments here that affect our industry. These tend to be around things like Government bills and legislation that can affect he flooring industry at a wider level.
