2022 FLOORING SHOW OUTSELLS 2021
With about four months to go, The Flooring Show has already outsold stand space compared to its triumphant comeback in 2021, indicating that it is on track to be a record-breaking year to commemorate the event’s 60th anniversary.
The Flooring Show 2022, the UK’s largest exhibition dedicated to the flooring sector, will be held in the Harrogate Convention Centre from September 18-20.
The year 2022 is special since it will be the 60th anniversary of the popular event, making it a must-attend for the business. “Sixty years is a tremendous milestone, and we are really delighted to be able to celebrate it with visitors and exhibitors from throughout the industry,” said Alex Butler, Event Director.

UK RETAIL SALES CONTRACT
UK retail sales contracted last month as consumers feel the squeeze from the country’s cost-of-living crisis according to the latest British Retail Consortium-KPMG retail sales monitor
“As the cost-of-living squeeze impacted consumer demand, sales continued to drop. As consumers rethought significant purchases during this challenging time, higher value products like furniture and electronics suffered the most” Helen Dickinson, CEO of the BRC, stated.
“It is apparent that the post-pandemic spending bubble has burst,” she continued. “Retailers are now dealing with more challenging trading circumstances, declining consumer confidence, and rising inflation that is having an impact on consumer purchasing power.”

FLOORING RETAIL PRICE INFLATION MAINTAINS HIGHEST LEVEL
Despite a slight decline in the UK’s general furnishing industry, retail price inflation for flooring is still increasing at historically high rates.
According to the most recent statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), retail inflation in the furnishing sector is now running at 16.2%, down somewhat from last month’s high of 16.8% but still much higher than the average consumer index number for May of 9.1%.
May flooring price inflation was 9.4%, up from April’s figure of 9.0%, although analysts believe this industry is going through two quite distinct situations with regard to carpet and rugs and vinyl.

Consumer confidence hits record low
With a “dark consumer mood,” analysts claim that consumer confidence touched a record low in June. However, the decrease in big buy plans for flooring and furniture has now levelled out for the first time in weeks.
In June, the Overall Index Score in GfK’s reputable retail report dropped one point to -41, hitting a new low.
The GfK Major Purchase Index, however, had been decreasing steadily for some time before it eventually halted and stabilised, although at minus 53 – 30 points below where it had been at this time previous year.
