Vinyl Flooring Inflation at 17%
Retail inflation for carpets and rugs has begun to decline; it is now at 4.9% for the year to July, the lowest level in 16 months, down 2% from last month.
Since this industry has been more affected by supply chain problems and raw material costs, vinyl flooring inflation has continued to run at considerably higher levels, approximately 17%, but it is beginning to taper down.
The retail price inflation rate in the furniture industry, which is normally running at 15% but is somewhat lower than June’s estimates, is comparable to the flooring statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Consumer price inflation is currently 10.1%, up nearly 1% from last month, and is mostly being driven by rising food and energy prices.

Consumer confidence continues to decline
economic outlook,” analysts estimate that consumer confidence in the UK has fallen to a new record low and furnishing sales have decreased.
The long-running GfK Consumer Confidence Index fell three points to -44 in August. Its Major Purchase Index, which gauges attitudes toward expensive things like flooring and furniture, dropped four points to minus 38.

Harrogate show expands
The Flooring Show will open its doors to visitors in only one month, displaying more than 250 brands, exclusive onsite features, and a larger venue at the Harrogate Convention Centre.
For its 60th birthday, the largest flooring-specific trade show in the UK is back and bigger than ever. In recognition of this, the King’s Suite will present a particularly noteworthy event that will honour the past and celebrate the future of flooring by displaying photos and artefacts from previous exhibits and reflecting on how the sector has changed.
The Fitter of the Year finals will also be shown in The King’s Suite. The Fitter of the Year finals, which were organised by NICF, pitted the top five carpet fitters in the UK against one another for the chance to take home the top honour. Dan Evans, Darren Ash, Richard Long, Ryan Hughes, and Sam Sanders will compete on September 18–19, taking on carpet as the material of the year. They are the finalists for the year 2022.

National Flooring Innovation Awards winners 2022 announced
The National Flooring Innovation Awards winners have been revealed for 2022. The Awards set out to honour and promote the ideas, inventiveness and innovation that push forward the UK flooring sector.
According to the organiser, Bridgette Kelly, “this award scheme has grown immensely popular since we established it in 2018 and despite the upheaval in the market, the industry has once again risen to the occasion in magnificent form.”
